Robert H. Friedman, MD - Obstetrician, Gynecologist

Dr. Robert Friedman graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch [UTMB] in Galveston. After serving in the air force as a flight surgeon, he took his residency in OB/GYN at UTMB. Focusing on every aspect of women’s medical needs, Dr. Friedman employs the latest technologies in these rapidly changing and expanding fields. Because his entire thirty-year career has been at Memorial City Hospital, he has served multiple generations of women in the same family and has been able to offer continuous care throughout their lives.

His greatest reward comes from serving the children of the children he delivered when he first opened his doors. “Some patients have a greater need to spend one-on-one time with me; it’s not unusual for patients to seek guidance in other areas of their lives. Once we explore the problem thoroughly, I often refer them to a physician in another specialty.” Dr Friedman is proud to say that he never refers patients to physicians he would not use himself, or send his family to.

Holly Seltz, LVN

Holly Seltz is in charge of the nursing department, graduated from Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City in 1979. A people person, Holly loves interacting with the patients, especially the ones she sees regularly over the twelve years she’s worked with Dr. Friedman. “An important part of my job is to provide a liaison between the doctor and our patients. Clarifying his diagnosis or recommendations allows me to impact their lives in a personal and productive way.” Indeed, patients consistently praise Holly for the gentle and compassionate interest she takes in their lives. Currently, she is completing her RN through an internet program provided by New York University, enhancing her credentials to better serve her patients each day.

Karen Meyer, Chief Financial Officer
Karen has worked in the health care field for nearly thirty years and with Dr. Friedman for the last fourteen. A liaison with the outside business world, she handles all the accounting and payroll needs and maintains the office computer systems. She conducts the credentialing with PPOs, HMOs and hospitals and makes hospital rounds to ensure that patients’ financial needs do not interfere with their health concerns. “I work with patients to coordinate their in-patient and out-patient needs. I assist them in making their financial arrangements, field insurance problems, organize pre-certifications and referrals.” For Karen, the best thing about working at MWHC is the people: “We’re a big family here. We are a business but we don’t have a business attitude toward one another or toward our patients. We care about our patients and we care about each other. Our staff changeover is limited so we know each other well; we know each other’s lives.”

DeeDee Jones, Insurance Manager
DeeDee comes to MWHC with twenty years in the medical field, starting as an aid in a nursing home. She began working with Dr. Friedman three years ago. “This is one of the best jobs I’ve ever had because everyone here is friendly, easy to talk to, accommodating to one another’s personal as well as professional concerns.” She works primarily behind the scenes except when she works one on one with the obstetrical patients. “I help each woman navigate through the complex system of managed care and create a plan that fits her unique financial situation.” DeeDee finds comfort in knowing she works for a doctor who treats her and everyone else with respect and consideration.
